Commonwealth Games: will ruin common men's wealth

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has blamed the Commonwealth Games for the higher tax proposed in the recent state budget. It means she was aware that the government has not enough fund to host such a big and prestigious (?) event. Even being a capital state of India, Delhi is lagging behind at many fronts in providing basic amenities to its citizen; pure drinking water, electricity supply and safety of women are few of them. When the city bid for the games it was publicized in a manner that it will help the city to provide basic infrastructure facilities to Delhiites. Various agencies including the union government provided needed fund. This is ultimately the money of taxpayers. Now the additional burden of taxes suggests that the state government is failed to manage the fund properly. Apart from that the work is also going at very slow pace. The games will kick start from October 3, 2010 and still so much have to be done. Even Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chief Mike Fennell has expressed his concerns over the progress of work. As projects lagged, inflationary pressures kicked in and costs soared. Surely, citizens aren't to be blamed for the delays. Nor must they be penalized with more taxes.
